PROCEDURES

BREAST ENLARGEMENT

Breast Enlargement is the standard term used for a surgery to enlarge the breasts and improve their overall shape.
This surgery is also referred to as breast augmentation or augmentation mammoplasty. During breast enlargement, the Surgeon places an implant in the breast. An implant is a soft silicone shell filled with silicone gel or saline solution made of salt water.

During a breast enlargement procedure, the Surgeon places an implant made of soft silicone gel or saline (salt water), giving the breasts more volume and enhanced shape.

This is done by making an incision, generally under the breast crease and a pocket is then created for the implant to be inserted into. The Surgeon will then customize the implants position based on the goals defined in your consultation.
Based on your consultation, the Surgeon may make one of two types of incisions:

“Subglandular” – implant placed on top of the muscle and over the glands.
“Submuscular” – implant placed partially or totally under the pectoralis major muscle.

After the implant has been placed and positioned, the wound is closed and dressed.

BREAST REDUCTION

Breast Reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is an extremely effective surgical procedure to remove excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with the body.
It can also alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with having large breasts such as back and shoulder pain, bra strap marks in the skin, inability to properly exercise, problem with correct posture and many other daily issues.

Breast reduction surgery is usually performed as an outpatient basis using general anaesthesia. After making the surgical incisions, the Surgeon will extract excess fat, skin and breast tissue and move the nipple to a higher position. The Surgeon with then reshape the remaining skin, breast tissue and close with dissolving sutures. Patients will wear a post-surgery bra for 6 weeks that lightly compresses and supports the breasts as they are healing.
Patients are expected to feel sore and bruised and can perform light activities after 1 week. Swelling starts to diminish after about 4-5 weeks. Patients usually return to full activities after approximately 6 weeks and scars begin to improve after 4-6 months.

Patients will be able to shower a few days after the surgery by simply removing the post-surgery bra just before and putting it on again immediately afterwards.

BREAST LIFT

Breast Lift may be done at the same time as a breast enlargement. This surgery can raise sagging breasts as well as the nipple and areola.
For a breast lift, the Surgeon removes excess skin from the bottom of the breast and around the areola. The remaining skin is then brought together. This tightens and raises the breast.

The procedure is normally performed as a bilateral procedure, but it can also be performed on one breast to achieve symmetry with the other breast following a reconstructive procedure.

Often for smaller breast lift procedures, incisions can be made around the areola with no other scars visible. A modified lift serves as an option if the breast are fairly small and there is not extreme case of sagging. For complete breast lifts, patients who have significant loss of volume and “droopiness”, incisions generally need to be made in the standard “anchor” shape.
It’s important to note the Breast Lift procedure generally reduces the size of the areola. During a Breast Lift, some patients may choose to have implants inserted to help give the breasts a fuller look.

The size of the breasts does not change after a Breast Lift if implants are not inserted; however, the surgery will leave the breasts with a lifted and youthful appearance.
